We're diving into a topic that hits close to home: those intense chocolate cravings, crazy mood swings, feeling down, and of course, our monthly visitor, Aunt Flo. Yep, I'm talkin' about iron, hormones, and all that stuff that can make us feel like we're on a rollercoaster.

Let's get real about our bodies. We lose iron every month during our periods. That means we gotta watch out for those iron levels dropping. See, iron, it's like the fuel that keeps our energy up and helps our brains make those happy mood chemicals. When we're low on iron, it ain't just about dragging ourselves through the day. We're talking short fuses, fuzzy thinking, and sometimes even those blues that settle in way too long.

Why Do We Crave Chocolate So Much?

Remember how we tend to crave chocolate like it's got the answers to life, especially around that time of the month? Turns out, there might be a reason for our chocolate cravings. Dark chocolate, the real deal, is actually packed with iron. It's like our bodies are screaming, "Hey girl, get me outta this slump!"

But hold up, chocolate ain't no cure-all. Here's the deal:

  • Listen to those chocolate cravings: When your body whispers "chocolate," indulge a little. But choose wisely – think high cocoa percentage, that's where the iron's hiding. Aim for 70% or higher cocoa.
  • Don't forget those other iron sources: Dark chocolate is a bonus, not a diet plan. Load up on those leafy greens, red meat, and beans to keep those iron levels strong. 
  • Feeling down ain't just hormones: If those blues stick around longer than Aunt Flo, or you're feeling seriously out of sorts, don't try to handle it alone. Talk to your doctor, your best friend, or someone you trust.
